If the sanctity of marriage is such an important issue to Republicans, then why are they trying to violate the sanctity of marriage and let the government decide if a woman should be taken off life support, rather than her husband?

I've had two grandparents kept alive by machines after suffering massive heart attacks that resulted in severe brain damage. In both cases, my parents had power of attorney, and even being anti-abortion and conservative Republicans, they chose to have the feeding tubes removed. I can't imagine what it would have been like to have the government step in and say you no longer have the right to make this decision yourself. This intrusion of the government into this marriage, into someone else's rights, is fucking unbelievable.

In the '80s Republicans argued for fiscal responsibility, individual and states rights over the federal government, and smaller federal government - all things I was inclined to support. Now they seem to support an expansive, overspending federal government with massive power over states and individuals. I can't believe old school Republicans stand for this shit. And I can't believe the rest of America is letting them get away with it.
