I had a great weekend in which I didn't accomplish much, but it moved at a nice mellow pace after what's seemed like a really fast-paced couple of weeks. Friday night we cruised down to Funhouse because hell, I wanted to see all the bands. The Fallen Angels were playing when we walked in, they Ray and Pete from Singles band the Heartattacks with a new singer (and now new second guitar player). The new singer is way more tough, walkin' the moterhead metal and punk line. Their sound was kinda shitty (always my complaint with Funhouse really, especially on the left side up front, the speaker sounds blow, it actually hurts my ears to stand within 10 feet of it). Mea Culpa played a good set for Bill having the flu and having a friend stand in on guitar for David. They made a life-sized full color mounted stand up of him standing there smiling with a guitar in his hands, it was hilarious. The New Town Animals are re-united (and it feels so good), they treked down from Vancouver B.C. to play and were fun - but again the sound wasn't great, they have sounded way better everytime I've seen 'em at the Sunset. And finally the Briefs played a fun set.
Saturday we knew Amy's dad was gonna come stay with us, but had no idea what time. So we got up early and cleaned... of course he didn't show up until 6pm. I cruised up to Capital Hill and spent 2 hours flyering everywhere for this Tuesdays Clinic (a great garage rock show, you should come!). Then I went home and checked my Ebay auction on this video game I wanted. It was an old Dragon's Lair cabinet that had been converted to another laser disc game. DL's were cool and are worth bank and I figured I could get this cheap and convert it back. I totally sniped the high bidder in the last 10 seconds and got it for $151.00 and am picking it up on Sunday, yay. Amy's dad came, we cooked a yummy dinner and spent the night talking, drinking beer, and watching movies. Swimming Pool was pretty good, although I'm not thinking a movie to watch with Amy's dad because of the sex/nudity factor since he's conservative. American Splendor was just plain odd, I was the only person awake by the end of it.
Sunday was mellow too. Amy's folks had given us some cash, so we spent the day shopping trying to figure out what we may buy. I think we are finally going to buy a new bed and matress. Our current one is just a metal frame and a matress set we bought used, it squeaks and creaks and is some cheapo brand that's uncomfortable, even if it's in good shape. A new bed will rule.
